Cine Mexicano Debuts on DIRECTV
Good news for DIRECTV customers who like Mexican cinema – they have a new way to enjoy the adventures of singing cowboys, crusading crimefighters, comedic star-crossed lovers and more.
The Spanish-language movie network Cine Mexicano joined the DIRECTV programming lineup on Feb. 3. The network is available with the OPTIMO MÁS™, MÁS ULTRA™ AND LO MAXIMO™ packages on channel 462.
“Cine Mexicano’s lineup of high-quality, Spanish-language movies are a perfect addition to our En Español platform,” said Emma Brackett, vice president of programming acquisition for DIRECTV. “We are now able to deliver even more robust programming from Mexico for our customers to enjoy from the comfort of their living rooms.”
Among Spanish-language movie networks, Cine Mexicano has enjoyed top ratings in the U.S. for the past five years. Almost all major TV distributors carry the commercial-free network nationwide.
Cine Mexicano, owned by media company Olympusat Inc., is in its 10th year of operation. Olympusat has produced more than 80 original movies for the network.
What Can I Watch on Cine Mexicano?
Programming focuses mainly on three types of movies: action, comedy and ranchera. (Like the long-ago musical Westerns of Roy Rogers and Gene Autry, rancheras celebrate romantic ideals of life on the frontier.)
The list of notable Hispanic actors featured in Cine Mexicano films includes Ana Cerradilla, Luis de Alba and Eric Del Castillo.
Reaching Out to Latino Viewers
With the addition of Cine Mexicano, DIRECTV continues to provide a variety of new programming and services for Hispanic audiences. Last December, the company introduced the online video platform Yaveo™ featuring Spanish-language movies, sports, news, documentaries and more.
In addition to its 20 million U.S. customers, DIRECTV provides satellite television to 19 million subscribers across Latin America.
